The classic Tortoiseshell’s black and red (or its dilute colors) are offset by patches of dazzling white, as long as the cat is well and frequently groomed. In America this variety is called a Calico after printed calico (cotton).
The English version of this name was Chintz, but this is no longer used. The American standard requires well defined patches of color, but in the United Kingdom, any degree of white is acceptable, from some on all four legs, chest and belly, to the van pattern.
Tortie and Whites occur in as many different color combinations as the Tortoiseshells themselves. This is a dilute color – Blue Tortie (Blue Cream) and White.
A black Tortie and White displays well mingled markings, clearly defined white patches, and an exceptionally fine longhaired coat.

Tortoiseshell and White Persian Cat
If you are looking to breed a unique cat with aesthetically pleasing coat color, then the Tortoiseshell and White Persian cat is the right choice for you. Although there are separate breeds for the White and Tortoiseshell Persians, there is also this combination breed that is even more unique than those two mentioned above.
Tortoiseshell or Tortie is known for having a combination of two colors on its coat and very little white color on its body. These combination of colors can be intermingled or mottled. This is a famous variety among the Persian cat breed because of the beautiful combination of colors in the coat, which is adored by pet lovers. Like most other Persians, they too have brilliant copper eyes that are very affectionate and also have the tendency to gaze at you.
However, the Tortoiseshell and White Persian cats are a unique variation of this particular breed. They are best known by the name Calico cats in America. The best way to describe its coat is that it consist of black and red patches all over its head. Meanwhile, the underparts of the body consist mostly of white coat. In most cases, there are three colors combined in the coat, which includes cream to add to red and black. A more rare color combination in this breed will have chocolate color in its coat instead of black.
This distinctive unique tricolor pattern therefore makes it very easy to identify or spot a Tortoiseshell and White Persian cat, especially for those expert cat breeders. However, there are also non-diluted variety for this breed wherein white is the predominant color of their coat. This unique coat pattern is produced by the genetics. The presence of X chromosome in these animals result in producing such unique fur colorings.
The huge similarity in a Tortoiseshell and White Persian cat with a typical tortoiseshell cat has resulted in a lot of confusion. However, there are a lot of differences between the two upon closer examination. The main difference lies in the feature and color of the coat whereas a tortoiseshell feature a blend of colors, while this one will more often than not showcase patches of different colors.
When it comes to the behavior and temperament of Tortoiseshell and White Persian cats, they are very affectionate and loving, especially towards their owner and their friends. However, they will show kindness only to people who care and show kindness towards them, too. They are generally calm and tranquil, so they prefer to lounge in a comfortable spot than be active in an outdoor environment. This is also a common characteristic amongst other Persian cat varieties, which is also why they are highly domesticated. It is highly sociable towards other cat varieties as well, so they rarely take their claws out. This behavior can be accredited to their gentle nature and this is one reason why they are popular choices of pet for a lot of people.
Pet owners must learn about proper grooming requirements for Tortoiseshell and White Persian cats though to ensure proper care. The most basic grooming requirement is daily brushing on their fur with the use of a soft-bristle hair brush. If you can do that, then you would enjoy cuddling with its silky and ultra-soft fur.
