10. Tonkinese
This breed is often referred as a dog in a cat disguise. This playful cat loves to play ‘fetch’ or ‘hide and seek.’ Like most cats, they are also very affectionate, as they can greet you at your doorsteps when you get home. Just be careful on leaving this cat along though, as bored tonkinese can be a bit destructive.
9. American Shorthair
Though its name often describe an ‘alley cat’ of mixed parentage, this pedigree is popular for its good health, big eyes and short broad face. They’re referred as the best all-around cat, as they’re affectionate in nature, and has no problem dealing with dogs and children. However, this breed still got its hunting instinct, which can be a plus for you if you have mouse problem in house.
8. Oriental
This breed is one of the most intelligent and curios breed in cat family, which sometimes lead them into trouble. They are known to open doors, drawers and even your purse. They crave human affection more compared to other cats, and can feel quite forlorn if you ignore it. They keep the energy and spirit of a kitten even when they get into adulthood.
6. Ragdoll
One of the biggest pedigree of domestic cats, as adult male ragdolls can weigh as much as 30lbs or more. Despite of its big size, ragdolls are quite passive and submissive; it doesn’t usually put up a fight when threatened. If you want an ‘easy going’ cat, then ragdoll is for you.

Once regarded as sacred cat, this cat has an unusual voice that almost sounds like a person talking. They’re very active cats, good jumper and climber and quick witted. They are often compared to do because of their personality. They can walk happily with their masters and doesn’t mind walking with a leash. However, Siamese cats are noted as the least friendly cat with strangers. However, they can be very mischievous and entertaining.
3. Exotic a.k.a. Shorthaired Persian
Derived from its name, this pedigree is simply a Persian with short hair. They have almost the same characteristics as Persians but easier to groom.
2 Maine Coon
This cat breed has a noticeable, long, thick coat and the temper of the domestic shorthair. It looks like a half raccoon because of its thick furry tail. Coon also have less undercoat that the Persian. They are very active and good “ratters.” As a matter of fact, they were breed to control rat populations in the farms of Maine.

Once known as the aristocrat of domestic cats family, Persian is the most popular breed for cat. They come in various colors, from 20 to 30 colors recognized within this pedigree. They are popular for their thick and luxurious coat, short but healthy-legged body, and big eyes. Though they usually wary around children, they are one of the most affectionate and loyal cat pedigrees. This breed has been the most popular for domestic pet since 1871.
